Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada

The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, or DFAIT, has a hundred-year history and has been instrumental in shaping Canada’s international presence.

Each year, DFAIT puts out a volume of documents as they are released into the public domain. Correspondence, internal memos, and diplomatic reports give voice to Canadian civil servants, diplomats, and ministers at work around the globe. In its centenary year, DFAIT wanted to produce a selection of some of the most interesting documents of the past hundred years. The publication needed to be distinctive.

We suggested a larger format, a thematic structure, the inclusion of photographs, and a two-colour text. We wanted to give the volume presence without losing the tone of the annual editions.
